Transaction completed: Völker AG is now Völker GmbH

(15.02.2012)

Witten/Batesville – By making Völker a GmbH (limited company), Völker AG’s take-over by Hill-Rom Holdings, Inc., Batesville/Indiana, a public company, has been completed. This step, a very reasonable one in terms of company law, allows it to pursue exactly the strategy that both partners want. They both want to implement a two-brand strategy in Germany, Europe and internationally, while also generating synergic effects for the benefit of the entire group.

The company expects the now completed transaction to strengthen its distribution channels and Hill-Rom’s range of products. At the same time, the combined power of these two brands is to expand their leading position in the key markets when it comes to innovations, product portfolio and an excellent corporate performance.

Hill-Rom Announces Definitive Agreement to Acquire Völker

(16.12.2011)

Hill-Rom Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: HRC), a global leader in patient support systems, announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to purchase Germany-based Völker group. The closing of the transaction is subject to customary review by regulatory authorities. Völker is a leading manufacturer of long-term care and acute care bed frames, surfaces and furniture in Europe and around the world. Völker is a private company with annual revenues of approximately $100 million in 2010.

The transaction is expected to strengthen Hill-Rom's channels and product offerings in Europe. The complementary Völker products would also further develop Hill-Rom's global portfolio, accelerate international expansion, and leverage existing sales channels and customer relationships.
"During its nearly 100-year history, Völker has established an impressive reputation for quality and innovative design," said John J. Greisch, President and CEO of Hill-Rom. "Our companies share similar missions and approaches to enhancing outcomes for patients and caregivers. We look forward to expanding the presence of Völker's exceptional products around the world."

"This transaction is a strategic fit for both of our companies," said Heinrich Völker, President and CEO of Völker. "Hill-Rom is a global leader with the reach and capabilities to further enable our mutual vision of transforming healthcare with pioneering products that promote dignified care for patients and efficiency for caregivers."

A New Feature of the Volker Care Concept

(07.04.2009)

The stunning new Volker Vis-a-Vis bed is now available to the UK for the first time. Called Vis-a-Vis because it allows face-to-face interaction at eye-level, it follows the Volker philosophy of encouraging more participation in an active life, and the latest innovation follows the theory that forming the bed into a seat and placing the clients feet firmly on the floor encourages even sometimes immobile clients to stand.

Sometime ago, the engineers at Volker asked themselves what would happen if they were to forwardly mobilise residents out of their bed, if they could place their feet firmly on the ground, if a bed really could contribute to an activation of immobile residents, from lying down to sitting up to getting up to, finally, walking, step by step with a thoroughly ergonomic aid that is comfortable for all.

What conditions would have to be met in terms of design? A bed whose lower-leg part can be shifted to the side and allows the patient to assume a sitting position. Special drive motors were deigned in conjunction with Porsche Engineering. Volker called this bed 'Vis-a-Vis' because nursing and communication takes place at eye level and it allows patients’ participation in daily routines.

The Volker vision is to enable all people in need of care to live their life as independently as possible. Volker promotes this philosophy with the beds' functions, which meet care giving requirements by allowing clients to care for themselves through the use of technology.

Care homes to be given hotel-style star ratings

(June 29, 2006)

CARE homes for elderly and disabled people are to be given hotel-style rankings so that residents and their relatives know what standard of service to expect. The ratings, ranging from 4-star for excellent to 1-star for poor, will be awarded according to the calibre of care given as well as the quality and condition of equipment and accommodation.

The measure aims to raise standards for about 500,000 adults living in 20,000 care homes, which generally charge between £21,000 and £42,000 a year for a place. More ...

In this year, too, elderly care provides for a record in visitors and exhibitors again. 36,988 professional visitors and 675 exhibitors from 15 countries gathered on the exhibition site in Hanover between 17 and 19 February. The most important European trade fair - with a conference on nursing care, therapy and medical care - it has been for many years the number one information and communication platform in this field. During three days, products and services were presented within the fields of care, rehabilitation, organisation and habitation, information and communication technology as well as housekeeping and nutrition. The main focus of this year's Elderly Care was on the special exhibition named "Living Spaces". Under the motto "Dwelling concepts for the year 2050", design and architecture students showed future-oriented concepts for the way of dwelling in old age.

Dwelling in old age was also picked out as a central theme by other exhibitors. Völker GmbH presented its future-oriented concepts for dwelling in old age under the motto "Dwelling in Ambience". Volker's motto met with great approval of stand visitors. The different design variations of the beds and the matching furniture were described as being particularly homely by many people.

"Personal demands often express themselves within one's own four walls, even if they have been removed to a nursing home," said Heinrich Volker, the company's Chairman of the Executive Board. According to that, Volker healthcare beds are not only practical aids within the nursing room, but also products which represent a design and feel-good factor for the individual taste.
